Making Food Waste Disposal Simple

What do InSinkerator products do?

From tackling food waste to making your favourite drinks, InSinkErator’s food waste disposers
and instant hot water taps are designed to make life so much simpler in the kitchen.

A food waste disposer is the easy, convenient, and reliable way to deal with inedible food waste,
such as vegetable peelings from food prep, leftovers and scraps. Their instant hot tap range
allows people to make drinks in seconds, prepare food in a flash and clean up in no time with no
harsh chemicals.

How do they work?

InSinkErator disposers are very easy to use. Simply place peelings and leftovers into the sink, run
the tap, press the button and push the food waste into the plughole. Conveniently, disposers also
never need emptying, as the food waste is ground into small particles that pass through your
standard sink plumbing.

InSinkErator disposers sit under the sink, use air switch technology, and are equipped with
MultiGrind Technology, which tackles food waste with up to four grind stages:

● Stage One – GrindShear Ring surface delivers a dependable grind for everyday scraps

● Stage Two – Shearing windows grind food waste into fine particles

● Stage Three – Undercutter Disk continues to grind food particles

● Stage Four – A cleansing paddle rinses the chamber walls clean of residue

InSinkErator’s instant hot water taps are premium Italian-designed and are manufactured from
high-quality materials to offer hot, cold and instant steaming water as well as filtered water with
their 4N1 model.

The tap operates as a usual tap would for standard hot and cold water; however, for steaming
water, all instant hot water taps use a locking safety lever.

Underneath the sink sits a quiet and compact NeoTank, which features a digital adjustable dial
that allows you to set your preferred temperature between 88° C and 99° C (in tank temperature).

In terms of the filtered water on the 4N1 model, this is activated by pressing a button on thefront of the tap. For 4N1 models, under the sink sits a water filter, which is advised to be replaced every six months.

What are the differences between models?

When it comes to food waste disposal units, there is a wide variety to choose from, ranging from the Standard 460 model to the Advanced Evolution Plus 1000EC.

The key differences between disposer models lie in the level of grind they provide, starting with a one-stage grind, extending up to four-stage multi-grind systems. Each unit is also tailored to different household sizes, from single-person homes to large, high-demand households.

For instant hot water taps, the main distinction is between the 3N1 and 4N1 models. The 3N1 dispenses regular hot and cold water along with steaming hot water, while the 4N1 offers filtered drinking water.

These taps are also available in a variety of shapes and finishes to complement any kitchen style. Shape options include L, J, and U designs, while finishes include Chrome, Velvet Black, and Brushed Stainless Steel – Brushed Copper and Brushed Gold are available for certain taps.

What can they deal with, and what should not be put into them?

Food waste disposers are designed to deal with food waste and food scraps when composting, and a food caddy aren’t options.

Food waste disposers can dispose of most food waste in a matter of seconds, including chicken bones. However, certain food types are only recommended for our Evolution models.

The Evolution models can grind most food waste. However, across all food waste disposers, fats, oils, harsh cleaning products and other non-food products should not be put down your disposer.

How easy are they to fit? Is it a DIY job?

InSinkErator products have never been easier to fit – designed to fit most standard 90mm sink wastes, a food waste disposer can be added to a new kitchen or easily retrofitted into an existing one.

InSinkErator, in recent times, has introduced its Easy Connect disposers and Lift and Latch technology. Easy Connect disposers feature InSinkErator’s Easy Connect Cord, Lift & Latch Technology, removable dishwasher inlet plug, and Easy Grip Handles to make installation even simpler.

Are they safe to use?

InSinkErator food waste disposers are perfectly safe and don’t have blades or knives. Instead, lugs are used to throw food waste against a stationary grind ring. The grind ring breaks food waste down into very fine particles, almost liquefying them, so they can flush down your plumbing.

InSinkErator taps are protected by a locking safety lever that must first be pushed down and then pulled towards the user to start the water flowing. The moment the lever is released, the water stops mmediately, thanks to a spring-back feature, so there’s no chance of steaming hot water running unattended. In addition, spouts on all our 3N1 and 4N1 Touch taps are fully insulated, making them safe to touch, even when steaming hot water is flowing through.

Will they cause any problems with sewers?

Finely ground food waste from a disposer will not block a well-maintained sewer. It is 70% water and has a very similar composition to the human waste that all sewers are designed to handle.

How are they cleaned and maintained?

Food waste disposers require no maintenance. However, if you smell any odours coming from your disposer, it’s usually a sign of food buildup.

Over time, food waste particles can accumulate inside the grind chamber and sink baffle. To clean your disposer, owners should follow these simple steps:
1. Turn off your disposer
2. Remove the sink baffle and clean the underside of the baffle with a scouring pad
3. Place the baffle back in the sinkhole
4. Turn on your disposer and run a medium stream of cold water
5. Place ice cubes mixed with lemon/lime wedges down your disposer to freshen it up

What’s the story behind InSinkErator?

In 1927, the world’ s first food waste disposal unit was invented by Wisconsin architect John W. Hammes. Hammes’ first creation was born out of sheet metal and used a small motor. Over the following years, he perfected the design, and in 1938, the InSinkErator brand was born.

By 1968, InSinkErator was acquired by globally renowned technology and engineering firm Emerson, and hundreds of thousands of units were being sold to households all over the USA.

In response to this rapid growth, InSinkErator began to sell food waste disposers outside the USA for the first time, opening an international division based in Europe. In 1970, InSinkErator diversified by manufacturing trash compactors and in 1973, brought out their first instant hot water tap.
