How Children Can Learn While They Play

Good educational toys should help children both to play and to learn. The experts from BusyKids explain the thinking behind their products

What is the Montessori method and how does it work?

One of the main principles of the Montessori method is: “Help me do it myself”. In particular, this means preparing an environment in which the child can perform basic activities independently (e.g. low-hanging clothes hanger, tower for learning in the kitchen, etc.) and providing toys that help the child to develop through play. Adults help the children to organise but do not do the work. The child chooses what, how much and how much to play with.

While playing, the children are also learning concentration, patience, and single-mindedness. And thanks to several components, they’ll even start to understand that every cause has its own effect. This makes the children more independent and confident in themselves and their abilities.

What ages are Busykids products aimed at?

We recommend using toys for children from the age of 1 year

What activities do they include?

For example, our bestselling Busy House includes around 30 different activities including latches, cogs, and motor labyrinths.. A huge number of different developmental and entertaining elements are contained in one toy.

The 5-in-1 swing is called that for a reason, too. It can be used in many different ways: as a swing, as a slide, as a shop counter or theatre stage, as a bridge or a bench. And if you buy an additional slide, then several more functions are added, including this set can be used as a table.

In our toys, we try to focus not only on quality and safety, but also on multifunctionality.

What skills do they teach?

We can talk at length and passionately about what skills our toys help to develop and how they can be useful. For example, gross motor skills. Balance, dexterity and coordination are improved by playing with a pikler, a slide and a swing.

Busy boards help develop fine motor skills and affect children’s speech development. The many different locks, zips and laces on our boards contribute to this.

What’s the story behind Busykids?

The trigger for the first ideas came from a little screw! Yes, you read that right! A sharp screw that appeared in another “quality” toy, which soon broke after we bought it and could have harmed our children.

And that’s how the first toys were made. They were designed for one-year-olds, because our children were at that age at the time and had just started walking. Safety was very important to us, so BusyKids received all European certificates.

It was also important that the toys contribute to the development of children as well as being fun and useful for parents, because we also want to relax sometimes.

That is how we came to what you can see now. And now more than 1,000 parents a month entrust us with the most precious thing of all – their child’s safety and development.
