The agreement, which will be implemented in June 2012, will mean that foods which are classed as organic in the EU will be recognised as organic in America. At the moment, foods in the EU have to go through an extra certification process before they can be sold in America, which is a time consuming and expensive process.
The recent growing demand in America for organic food, thanks to recent nutritional awareness, means that the partnership is sure to boost trade and farming. It is hoped that the change will open up new job opportunities in marketing, packaging and shipping.
