Ever since Location Location Location arrived on our screens in 2000 property expert Phil Spencer has become one of the best known faces on British television. A prolific, reassuring and friendly presence in our screens – whether he’s offering house buyers advice, negotiating deals or exploring stately homes – he’s considered one of the most popular property experts in this country. As well as hosting numerous TV shows in the past 16 years, he’s also published books, written columns and features for leading newspapers and lifestyle magazines, hosted radio shows, produced apps and established two thriving businesses.
Born in 1969 in Canterbury, Kent, Phil spent his childhood playing with his three siblings on his family farm, learning about nature and conservation and playing lots of cricket. After leaving school in 1988, he spent a year teaching sport on Australia’s Gold Coast and then joined the British Army on a three-month Potential Officers course and played junior cricket county for Kent.
His career in property start with a stint working for an estate agent in Canterbury, after which he completed a degree in General Practice Surveying at London’s Southbank University. In 1996, he founded his first business, Garrington Home Finders – where he was one of the first property experts to specialise in looking after the interests of purchasers. The business took off, and he spent the next 12 years developing the company into an organisation with four offices, a staff of 30 and an annual turnover of £3.5 million.
Location Location Location was born when Phil was approached by a Scottish production company who wanted to create a program that followed the highs and lows of a couple looking for a house to buy. After first being approached as a consultant, Phil then recorded a screen test with Kirstie and a 16-year long partnership was born. The 18th series of Location Location Location has just recorded, making it the longest running and most successful program of its type on UK TV. It’s watched in 72 countries around the world.
As well as Location Location Location Phil has worked on numerous other TV projects, including Relocation Relocation and Love it or List it with Kirsty and his own solo programmes including Secret Agent, Phil Spencer: Home Hero and Phil Spencer’s Stately Homes.
