X Factor has been criticised by the public for ‘mocking the vulnerable’
A survey, carried out by YouGov, found that 32 per cent of participants felt that the reality television show was just a modern day freak show.
The show, which sees celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole decide the fate of thousands of young people, was condemned by some viewers for deliberately mocking and humiliating vulnerable people.
X Factor is not the only television show to have been criticised on this note as other reality shows, including Big Brother and Britain’s Got Talent, have also been scrutinised in the past.
However, despite the criticisms, X Factor has been extremely popular with television viewers and on Saturday, when the show launched its seventh series, they drew record audience figures of 12.6m.
