Cases of breast and bowel cancer could be prevented if people did more brisk walking, a new study claims
Scientists at the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) have released findings that about 10,000 people could save themselves from getting breast and bowel cancer if they walked briskly on a regular basis.
The researchers have found that 45 minutes of exercise a day that increases the heart rate, such as brisk walking, could significantly reduce the risk of getting these types of cancer.
Henry Scrowcroft, science information manager at Cancer Research UK, said, ‘There’s solid evidence that certain cancers, including breast and bowel cancer, are less common in people who do regular exercise.’
Head of science at WCRF, Dr Rachel Thompson, has also commented that by making small changes to their daily routine, people can achieve significant health gains.
