The number of second holiday homes in the UK owned by Brits is on the up
It’s thought to be due to fluctuating exchange rates and the general hassle of going abroad.
Liam Bailey from Knight Frank Estate Agency says, ‘The number of second homes is steadily increasing. The credit crunch saw this falter in 2008, but in 2009 an extra 6,212 English second homes were built, marking a return to long-term growth.’
Devon proved to be the top English second home hotspot last year, with north Cornwall and Berwick-upon-Tweed following close behind.
Stuart Law from property company Assetz says, ‘Prime holiday resorts – typically those in Devon and Cornwall – will outperform.
Many investors are realising that holiday homes in the UK can be just as attractive as those abroad.’ If you want to try before you buy, rent a luxury holiday lodge in the UK.
