Dress your Christmas table to impress your guests
Woolworths have some great festive pieces of tableware

If you’re serving up a fabulous feast at home this Christmas, don’t forget to dress your table. A little time and effort will ensure the setting is just as impressive as the food

Get the festivities off to a stylish start by making sure the table is dressed for the occasion. Whatever your budget, we’ve got some fabulous accessories and amazing schemes for you that will give your Christmas dinner that extra special sparkle and sure to impress friends and family this year.

Dress to impress

When you consider the time and effort you spend on preparing the food, it makes sense to put a little extra thought into the appearance of the table. First decide on a theme, then get out your best china and glassware - Christmas lunch is a special occasion so all good tables deserve to be set with only the best. For a striking centrepiece why not fill a bowl with decorative baubles or arrange silver twigs and fairy lights in a tall glass vase. Candles are perfect for creating the right atmosphere at your Christmas table and a group will provide more impact, so consider grouping together pillar candles of varying heights. Finally, place cards will really make your guests feel special at your Christmas table. They can be simple, folded pieces of card with names written in fancy handwriting, or printed cards popped in a place card holder.

Black and white

The big look this year is magical monochrome – high shine silver with jet black and cool white is a combination that oozes effortless style and a-list glamour. Dress the table with crisp white linens and team with decorative glassware and designer-style china. The centrepiece can be something as simple as a silver dish piled high with black and silver decorations, or why not show candles and glassware off to dazzling effect by placing them on mirrored placemats on a stunning runner down the centre of the table.

Glamorous golds

If you prefer something a little more sophisticated go for luxurious chocolate and gold, a delicious blend that’s ideal for an indulgent Christmas meal. Glittering gold is particularly effective against a brown backdrop, so team metallic glassware and charger plates with a bitter chocolate tablecloth and accessorise each place setting with a personalised chocolate box - the perfect finishing touch.

Traditional colours

Finally, traditionalists will love the nostalgic Nordic look. It comes around each year, but we can’t help liking a classic red and white scheme with touches of green and naturals. Set the scene with a bold red tablecloth and lay each place setting with white plates and crystal clear glassware.
