Levels of fat are main concern for shoppers

The fat content in food has been put as the foremost concern of shoppers
The report, conducted by YouGov, found that 55% of consumers check the levels of fat in food products before checking the calorie count.
The healthy eating survey found that only 30% of shoppers look for low calorie options while food shopping.
It was previously thought that calorie counting was a predominant technique of weight loss but these results have suggested otherwise.
James McCoy, Research Director for YouGov, said, ‘The study has called into question the ‘calorie count’ method to weight loss.’
The findings also showed that Government campaigns have little influence as only 1 in 10 said that they had a bearing over the content of their shopping basket.
Organic food also lagged behind with just 13% of participants agreeing that that was a precondition in deciding what food to eat.
