David Cameron has urged the UK to work hard so as to become one of the top five tourist destinations in the world
Speaking in London’s Hyde Park, the Prime Minister criticised the country by saying that we were not ‘doing enough’ to encourage tourists to visit.
Currently the UK is ranked in sixth place as a holiday destination behind countries such as Spain and Italy.
Overseas visitors are estimated to put £115bn a year into the UK.
Mr Cameron said, ‘I want to see us in the top five destinations in the world. That means being much more competitive internationally.’
The Conservative leader also added that he wanted people to become more ‘proud’ of the UK so as to attract more visitors to the country.
