Eating superfoods may be a better way to combat ageing than creams

Some anti-ageing creams have been found to contain snake venom, shark eggs and dangerous toxins.
Many over-the-counter creams contain strong chemicals and even snake venom or snail slime. Confusing labelling and small print on creams makes it increasingly difficult to determine what they really contain. Mr Knivett from Creative Nature who offer natural anti-ageing products said, ‘It is absolutely shocking what some of the topical creams found at your local department store contain. Many of the big brands attempt to pack their products with fragrance, which may seem like a good thing to do, but to those in the know I can have extremely damaging effects on the skin. When consumers see the word fragrance, they should be aware that this is an umbrella term of around 4000 different ingredients and many of these are carcinogenic or toxic’.
However, a new movement is starting that emphasises the importance of diet in looking good, and in particular superfoods that may combat signs of ageing in the skin. One of the best is apricot kernels, dubbed one of the healthiest foods on the planet. They are grown in the Himalayas and have been eaten for thousands of years by the Hunzas, Hopi Indians and the Karakorum for numerous health benefits. The kernels are rich in vitamins B17, B1 and B6 which help give the skin a youthful glow as well as providing essential vitamins for your general health.
The kernels themselves are very bitter and shouldn’t be swallowed whole, so it’s best to grind them up and sprinkle on cereal or other food, or include them in fruit juice or a healthy fruit smoothie. Mr Knivett added, ‘instead of purchasing expensive topical creams for your anti-ageing needs, I would certainly advise those seeking that youthful glow to try apricot kernels for a few months and to see the huge benefits that can be reaped from incorporating something so small into their daily diet.’
