Alcohol consumption has changed in recent years

A new survey has found that 60% of adults think that alcohol packaging should contain health warnings similar to those on cigarette packets
The survey, carried out in March 2010 by YouGov Plc, reported that the attitude towards the consumption of alcohol has changed in recent years with people being more conscious about their health and fitness.
James McCoy, Research Director of YouGov Sixth Sense, commented, ‘Selling alcohol in the UK has steadily shifted away from the old boozer and instead is moving towards the modern pub-restaurant.’
95% of the respondents to the survey believed that a drink from ‘time to time’ does not hurt but almost half of those agreed that drinking alcohol is bad for your health.
Perhaps due to the recession, the survey also found that people are now more inclined to the cheaper option of buying their alcohol from the supermarket and drinking it at home instead. The ‘take it home’ market share of the alcohol industry has increased by over 3% in the past ten years.
Despite the survey results and the change in drinking habits, alcohol is not predicted to stop being the ‘drug of choice’ as 43% of survey participants admitted that they still drink as much as they always have.
